Death Penalty

Is the death penalty fair? Should people who commit serious crimes be sentenced to death penalty, should it be used or should we get rid of it? These are questions where the answers may vary depending on who is answering them. The death penalty, also known as Capital Punishment is by definition, "The execution of a person by judicial process as a punishment for an offense. This topic raises many controversy issues around the world.

Some see the death penalty as uncivilized punishment that violates moral values, whereas others believe it will help the criminals for repeating the offense. I personally believe we should abolish it everywhere. I think if someone is going to commit such a crime they should sit in jail and think about what they have done for the rest of their lives. Yeah, some people make mistakes but how could you call murdering or raping someone a mistake. I think all criminals who commit those crimes are disgusting and do not deserve to walk the earth!

Gambling

Gambling among underage teens can have many negative effects. According to Beverly Glazer, an expert on addiction, "the effects on ga,bling can destroy the entire family" A few negative effects would be mental health issues. These issues would include suicidal thoughts or suicide, depression and anxiety, and lower self- esteem. Another issue is physical problems which include headache, back and neck pains and other stress-related problems, which lead to insomnia. When starting at a young age these ate not effects you would want to have. Stress among teens can have many harmful short-term and long-term effects.
Teens can develop many changed when facing, such as psyical and mental changes.

Physical canges of stress could include changes in the voice, increase in weight and height. Mental changed would include aggressive behavior, experiencing new things such as, drugs, alcohol, and even attraction to the opposite sex.

given that gambling has many effects and changes among children, it is important that we acknowledge the problem that may be right in front of us. Gambling among teens not only causes problems in the present but in the future as well. Because stress is so harmful to teenagers, they should not beable to gamble under the age of 18.

U.S. Leads New Bid to Phase Out Whale Hunting

in the article of the New York Times, by John m. Broder, The author states that the United States is trying to make an agreement that would limit and possibly end whale hunting by Japan, Norway and Iceland. They will allow the 3 countries to continue whale hunting within the next ten years but they are to reduce their numbers dramatically. The Japanese killed over 1,001 whales last year, which brings them a great deal of money, not only are they taking it from their waters, but from the open waters of Antartica.
I say leave them alone, they are not harming anyone. Whales are so far out you probably dont even realize they exist!. I dont see why people have to kill things to make their money, it really gets me mad. Its the point that they are just swimming along minding their own business, and two minutes later they are being cut up and sold to people. I agree with this i think we should end whale hunting all over the world, not just Japan, Norway, and Iceland. End it everywhere, we can make our money some other way

Russia Suspends All Adoptions to U.S. Families

In the article of the New York Times, " Russia Suspends All Adoptions to U.S. Families, the author explains that Russia is Suspending all adoptions due to the problem that occurred last Thursday. An American woman from Tennessee adopted a young boy from Russia, and sent him back at 7 years old, with a note in his pocket stating that he had Psychological problems. ''Russia believes that only such an agreement which will contain effective tools for Russian and U.S. officials to monitor the living conditions of adopted Russian children will ensure that recent tragedies in the United States will not be repeated." No charged have yet been posted for this woman and the Russians are outraged. They are worried for the childrens safety and dont want this to repeat.
I think this is outrageous. When you adopt a child you are supposed to become their whole world, i wouldnt care if my kid was perfect in the begining then turned out having a horrible disease, that is my child and i will love them regardless. What kind of cold heated person would take someone out of a shelter and give him a loving home, then throw him to the sharks because he wasnt what you call "normal". This seriously makes me sick!!. That little boy probably has no idea what was going on, other then he was on an airplane by himself but nothing but a note in his pocket saying why he was coming.

Fraud

In the article of the New York Times "manhatten id thiefsentenced in NYPD scam" by laura Italiano, the author states 2 men named jasper "lyte" Grayson and James "sal" Malloy of the bronx to do a minimum of 5 years and max of 10 in prison for a massive check fraud scheme. the scheme had nearly 1,000 accomplises and had about 500 victims that include madison square garden, the NYPD and a cathedrial. Prosecutors say they made about 2 million before being caught last year in their car. i think its crazy that it took so long for the police to catch them. what if this was happening to you? it seams they werent trying hard enough. I was watching a movie a few weeks ago about identity theft and the girl ended up not only staling her money but her identity as well.

Animal Cruelty

In the article "2 cats slain; SPCA aide charged" by michelle sahn, the author explains how a belmar resident and x SPCA employee is charged with two counts of animal cruelty for killing two cats who were recovering from surgery. The man named daniel mann strangeled one cat with a leash and desposed of it in a near by trash can, and slammed the other on the ground and whipped it until it died. It absolutely disguses me how someone could harm such an innocent animal in such a harmful way. also how could the SPCA hire such a person with out doing a background check? according to the author the man was in prison already and was released October 2007. I hope he spends a long time in jail for what he did. I have pets of my oen including a cat and i would never hurt them.

In the New York Times article "Governor's Spending Plan Draws criticism in California", Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger states that he wants the general funds to be granted to higher education. he wants to have less money spent on jails and more spent on universities. According to Schwarzeneffer, the state should pay no more than 7% towards prison, and starting 2014 the school districts should get 10%.
Employees say lowering percents could be a threat to public safety, and correction officers, though others believe it should be split fairly and go to where it is needed the most. Increasing the percent to go to the universities is a better theory. It could possibly lower tuition fees, book fees, everything someone would have to pay for attending school. What i want to know is, why does the prison precent change right away, but the school precent won't change until 2014? This should be takin into effect right away, there are people who cant attend school because the tuition is to high. If it was lowered it would make it easier for lower-class people to have a good education

Defense chiefs: repeal gay ban
In the Asbury Park Press artice "Defense chiefs: Repeal gay ban", the author states that gay troops should be allowed to openly serve in the military. There is a "dont ask, don't tell" policy which they seam to stand by, and it should come to an end. The Pentagon is working on ways to make this issue go away, while Obama says he will help the best he can.
Gates thinks if the gays keep there sexuality private then there shouldnt be a problem, but Republicans are going against the idea for the repeal. Imagine a world where your kids couldn't go to school because of there dating preference, its not fair to anyone. Its not that persons fault how they are made, and it shouldnt be held against them, especially when they are willing to fight for our country.
