In this article called "Ex-Officer Guilty in Shove of Bicyclist" from the New York Times newspaper written by the author John Eligen, he explains how a police officer was charged for assaulting a bicyclist in a bike rally in Times Square. At first, the bicyclist Christopher Long was charged with attempted assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. But, the race had been video-taped and it shows how clearly the officer Patrick Pogan actually body-checked Long as he rode past. Pogan is now being charged with four years in prison.
If this had not been video-taped, and innocent man such as Christopher Long would have been charged for three things he did not do. Luckily his charges had been dropped all thanks to the video and now the real person at fault, ex-officer Pogan will get the time in jail he deserves for lying to the court. I feel Pogan deserves to go to jail. What reason did he have to body-check an innocent bicyclist? And this is supposed to be someone who protects people and enforces the law, not one who is supposed to break the law. He is wrong and deserves to be in jail.

"Survivor Describes Machete Attack in Newark"
In an article of the New York Times news paper called "Survivor Describes Machete Attack in Newark", written by Richard Perez-Pena, it explains how a young girl and three others in Newark had been severely attaked by seven males. The girl, Natasha Aerial, survived this attack while her 2 friends and brother died. She explains that, “somebody had their knee on my back, pulled my hair up, and was trying to chop my neck off with a machete.” She tried to escape but as she ran away one shooter shot her by her ear and she fell down. She sat in a pool of blood and passed out until the ambulance took her. This all occured behind Mount Vernon School. Aerial had to get surgery to reconstruct her jaw and reattach her ear. I feel this is the most insane thing anyone could do to four innocent children. Those seven men should be either sentenced in jail for life, or atuomatically given the death sentence. It is not fair that after hanging out at a school you could lose your faith, life, and freedom.

Caesarean Births Are at an All Time High in U.S.
In this article by Denise Grady posted in the New York Times on March 23, 2010, it explains that Caesarean births, also known as C-Sections, are increasing at a fast rate. They reached 32 percent in 2007. It has risen steadily since 1996, and now is at its all time high. Usually, C-Sections are better for pregnant mothers and newborn babies. It has been said in the past that they are safer than normal births. Critics are saying that too many women are given this procedure and should not be having surgery to give birth. George A. Macones, a chairman of obstetrics and gynecology explained, “What we’re worried about is, the Caesarean section rate is going up, but we’re not improving the health of babies being delivered or of moms.” More risks occur the more Caesarean's a mother has.
I feel doctors should do something about Caesarean births. Apparently it is not such a good idea that the right has skyrocketed since 1996, and nothing is changing. The risks have stayed the same for both mothers and new borns. If the injuries and deaths have remained the same even with Ceasarean births, then why is it that they are said to be safer?

Jury Shown Swastika Tattoo in Hate-Crime Trial
This article was posted in the New York Times on March 23, 2010 written by Manny Fernandez. In Riverhead, New Jersey, and 18 year old man named Jeffrey Conroy had been charged for stabbing a Hispanic immigrant. After this crime, he asked his friend to give him three tattoos: one being a star, one being a lightning bolt, and one being a swastika. Conroy's friend, Keith Brunjes, gave him the tattoo, he did not ask any questions. When Conroy was asked about the lightning bolt he revealed that it was meant to be for white power.
Given that the hate crimes in the United States need to be put to a stop, Conroy should be immediatly sent to jail. Stabbing an innocent victim should have been the first strike to be sent to jail. Now that we assume that he has hate for African Americans, Hispanics, and Jewish people, it should be enough for him to go to jail. Tattoos such as these should not even be legal to put onto anyone's body. For someone to have so much hate and violence in their life they should be put in their place and know that they are wrong.

In Newark, Arrests Are Made in 1978 Killings
In this article, it explains how three men in Newark had captured five young boys at the ages of 16 and 17 and murdered them. This was written on March 23, 2010, in the New York Times by Michael Wilson and Colin Moynihan. This unexpected disappearance worried the mothers of the five boys, since they had been good boys and had never gotten into any sort of trouble. One of the three murderers had confessed just recently, almost 32 years after the felony had been convicted. Evans, one of the murderers, had confronted one of the boy's brother and confessed the killings. The five boys had been vanished for years mysteriously.
Apparently, the three men took the boys to an abandoned house, gunpoint to the heads, and set the house on fire for them to die. Evans had explained that the boys had stolen marijuana from them, and in result Evans and the two other murderers wanted the boys killed.
On Monday, Lee Anthony Evans and Philander Hampton had been arrested for muder and arson. The third killer, Maurice Woody-Olds, had passed away in March 2008.
Given that Evans and Hampton took five innocent boys' lives, their lives should be taken in return and be given the death sentence. An eye for an eye; If you take someone's life, your life should be taken in return. This is so cruel and unfair how five innocent boys of Newark got taken and burned to death.

Winter Training: Faster and Safer Indoors?
This article came from the New York Times Web site on March 4, 2010. People are beginning to question whether working out in the gym builds up your strength compared to working out in the outside world. The author explains how running on a tredmill and running outside are two completely different things. The wind copacity outside strengthens you more even if you run more on a tredmil. How can we know if this study is really in effect? Everyone's bodies are different in many ways, and whether they may run better on a tredmill than persistantly running outside, that does not change the effects of how it may work. Running on a tredmill is just the same as running outside. For example, you are working out the same muscles whether using the bicycle at the gym or actually riding one. The question still lives on whether there remains an immense difference between indoor working out or outdoor.

Zap or Chill? Targeting Fat Without Surgery
This New York Times article was written by Catherine Saint Louis on February 3, 2010. This article is about a chilling device that vacuums fat out of your body. It is a Zeltic device known as Zerona, which is a four armed laser that zaps your stomach, flanks, and hips with red beams during six 40-minute treatments. People have given this treatment a try, in the hopes of believing that liposuction will soon be out of the question to lose fat. Some people explain how this device is showing no difference in their bodies and therefore has not worked. This device is very new and therefore may lead to some issues as to how long it will work or if in the long run it may cause damage.
For many people this device may help them lose the weight they need in the right spots but for others it may be seen as a problem that we must know more about. Zerona is so brand new that we do not know right away the issues it may possibly bring. Everyone is beginning to take technology for granted and see things like Zerona as a positive idea but we need to know more facts about this to feel safe and comfortable putting it out there. How do we know this is permanently safe? Yes, maybe this laser treatment works in the beginning, but what about in the long run?

"Neighbor Charged With Stalking and Killing Woman"
This article was written by Michael S. Schmidt. This source was found in the New York Times newspaper on Thursday January 28, 2010. This article basically talks about a woman living in a Queens apartment getting stalked for years and finally getting murdered in the hallway of her apartment building. The gruesome thing about this catastrophe is that the woman’s heart and lungs had been ripped from her body and still have yet nowhere to be found.
Some people think a killer like Mr. Chen should get life in prison while others feel he should be sentenced to death penalty. Should a killer like this be living in prison? I strongly disagree. A man like this should live no further. If you take someone’s life, in return your life should be taken as well. There is absolutely no reason to take someone else’s life unless they have taken someone’s life already. Murder should not be an option.
