Tea Party Movement

On January 29, Don Gonyea, who reports on the White House for NPR, reported on the new Tea Party movement in a piece called: Convention Brews Tea Party Tension http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=123126938. With the first ever national convention set to take place next week in Nashville, TN; the keynote speaker will be Sarah Palin. The Tea Party movement has grown at a fast pace this past year and is steadily gaining popularity among conservatives. With other rallies that happened in VA, NJ, and MA, the party is getting stronger and establishing a better voice. Part of the controversy has to do with the fact that more people are getting involved and starting to charge too much and are trying to make a profit. With her new book Going Rouge, Palin will surely be a large draw and a profitable event. This inaugural event will be the start of a large movement, one that puts dollar signs in many people eyes…
The idea of a grass roots movement really excites me, one that is pushing back on a government that is growing out of control, really really excites me. I would love to see it stay affordable and accessible to “the common folk”, but, unfortunately like anything that grows so will the costs. A way to attract people is to have famous speakers and others of political significance that make appearances at these events to show their support and draw large crowds. Having them show up usually means paying for their time. It would be so nice to see them doing it for free and giving their time for a good cause. As the numbers grow and we have a louder better defined voice, we pick us plenty of support from celebrities and government officials that want to help deliver the message and let the world know that “Obama has awoken a sleeping giant”…
